My Honest Review of the Closest Hotel to Rome Airport (FCO)
Let’s talk about where to stay near Rome airport the night before a super early flight from Fiumucino (FCO). I’d booked myself a 5:00 AM flight from Rome to Santorini to ensure I’d get a full day of exploring on my first day in Greece.
But, what about the night before? A 5:00 AM flight meant I needed to be at the airport at least a couple hours earlier. I’m not someone who can stay up all night, out on the town before an early flight. Nor am I someone who will willingly rough it on uncomfortable airport seats for the night.
Instead, I chose the best option of all for a solo female traveler in the second half of her 30s who is willing to pay for convenience.
I booked myself a night at the absolute closest hotel to Rome airport I could find. A hotel that’s actually inside of Rome’s Fiumucino airport. My own little reenactment of the movie, The Terminal. Kind of…

The 2 closest hotels near airport in Rome, Italy
Technically, there are two hotels really close to the Rome airport for you to consider. But only one of them is actually inside of the airport, and that’s HelloSky.
HelloSky
This is where I chose to stay. I booked myself a single room for one night in early October. I took the train to the airport and then walked to HelloSky by following the signs. Easy peasy.
After checking in I dropped my bags off to my room and scoped it out (photos + video down below). Then, I walked around the airport to find some dinner. As a solo traveler, it was freeing to be able to walk through an airport without all my bags in tow for once.
I picked up dinner to go, enjoyed it in my room, showered and went to sleep early. The next morning, I awoke with no stress because all I had to do was freshen up, get dressed and walk to my gate!

Hilton Rome Airport
The second closest hotel to Rome’s Fiumucino airport is the Hilton Rome Airport.
While this hotel is not inside the airport itself, it is connected to the airport by a covered walkway. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the hotel to the airport via this walkway.
The Hilton Rome Airport has a restaurant on site, as well as amenities like a gym, an indoor swimming pool and breakfast that may or may not be included with your room (depending on what you book).
Sometimes, prices may be lower at Hilton Rome Airport than at HelloSky and vice versa. So, if cost is a factor for you then it’s worth checking both based on your specific travel dates.

My experience at HelloSky Rome Airport Hotel

Several folks had also stayed at HelloSky and had a similarly positive experience to my own. Some had stayed at the Hilton Rome Airport, instead. Many commented that it’s simply too expensive.
All I’m going to do here is give you my honest take to help you decide whether or not this accommodation is the right pick for you. Let’s break it down.
Cost
For transparency’s sake, I dug up my receipt to see what I paid for my single room for one night in October 2024. I paid 154 euros.
Prices vary based on demand, your specific travel dates, the room type you need etc. So of course, only you can decide whether the price you’re seeing is worth it for you or not.
For me, 154 euros felt perfectly reasonable for a night of added convenience. Would I have felt the same if the price tag were double that? Maybe not.
The room
I wasn’t expecting much. Just a clean, comfortable place and that’s exactly what I felt I got. The room was small but spacious enough for me. The bed, same.
The bathroom felt quite big, and the shower was comfortable. They included a little toiletry kit, which was convenient. Despite being at the airport, it was quiet and I slept well (and I’m typically a light sleeper, so that’s saying something).
I really have no complaints.
Amenities
There is a communal lounge and also, apparently, a restaurant onsite as well as breakfast buffet.
Room service is also available, and there’s a coffee station of some sort. But, I can’t comment on any of these because I didn’t take advantage of them.
I arrived at the hotel in the evening and chose to wander out into the airport to find dinner. And in the morning, I was out of there by around 2:00 AM so, no breakfast buffet for me.
But if you wanted, you could explore the available offerings at HelloSky or even head out for dinner on the beach somewhere if your Rome itinerary allows it. After all, Fiumucino is a coastal town.
Location
HelloSky was easy to find and an easy launchpad in the early morning, when I had to groggily navigate the way to my flight gate.
For convenience after a really late arrival or super early departure from Rome’s Fiumucino airport, there’s no better option.
Final thoughts on where to stay in Rome the night before an early flight
I wish more airports around the world had this sort of setup, with a hotel directly within the airport itself. It gave me a sense of ease and peace of mind to be able to stay here, and helped me begin the next leg of my trip in Greece feeling grounded.
But if staying inside of an airport doesn’t feel right for you, or if you’re not quite as rushed as I was, you should also consider staying somewhere within the town of Fiumucino. My vote is for Hotel Isola, looks like an island escape!
