Tango Sur Chicago: A Delicious Argentinian Steakhouse

Curious about Tango Sur Chicago? Read on!

Chicago is no stranger to the foodie scene, and every neighborhood is brimming with dining options for every budget. Tango Sur Chicago is an affordable and quality Argentinian steakhouse located in Chicago’s Lakeview Neighborhood.

Tango Sur Chicago Things to Know

If you’re looking for delicious grilled meats, affordable steaks and a romantic ambiance in Chicago then move Tango Sur up to the top of your list.

What to Order

You’ll have plenty to choose from, but my top picks as a repeat customer to Tango Sur are as follows: empanadas, El Filet and some wine glasses because this place is BYOB.

If you ask me, El Filet is the no brainer item to order here. You actually get TWO steaks (we ordered them medium) with a side of spinach-mashed potatoes (they’re green) and Chimichurri sauce — all for about $30.

The only food there I’m not a fan of so far is the starter salad they bring out which basically looks like a plate of hamburger toppings. I could do without.

Note: since they are BYOB they don’t serve their own alcohol on site. Be sure to plan accordingly.

The Ambiance

At Tango Sur Chicago the music is loud and the lights are turned way down but I’m always able to have decent conversation within my groups of 2 or 4.

In the summer, you can sit outdoors which is also a lovely experience. The vibe feels romantic and cozy, making it a great option for date night.

Do You Need Reservations?

If you can get reservations in advance, awesome. If not, expect a long wait and plan to wait at one of the nearby bars.

They’ll call you when your table is ready, and the wait will be well worth it. They also have a tiny waiting room in the back and if it’s not too full, you can ask to wait for your table in there. But who would mind the opportunity for a pre-dinner drink nearby?

The Surroundings

There are several restaurants and shops along Southport Corridor near Tango Sur Chicago to visit for pre-dinner drinks. One option is Bodega Sur, an Argentinian tapas restaurant and wine bar.

Another is Toons Bar & Grill, a beloved neighborhood bar. Both are very close to Tango Sur so make your choice depending on what type of environment you’re drawn to for the evening.

What do the Reviews Say?

Tango Sur has received some rave reviews from its customers, here are just a few:

This is a favorite place of mine to take out of town guests. The quality and flavor of the steaks are comparable to a fancy steakhouse without the downtown prices . The ambiance creates a special and romantic atmosphere. My favorite appetizer are the empanadas and always keep me coming back for more.

Absolutely amazing! The place is tiny but feels like home & so romantic. the staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. I love that you get a lot of food as well for the price. The steak was delicious, so tender that we used a butter knife to cut it . It’s definitely not like other expensive restaurants and you only get a small amount of food.

This is without a doubt my favorite steak and grilled meats in the entire city. Incredibly fresh, great grill and char flavor, perfectly seasoned, it was perfect on all fronts. BYOB is great as it allows you to create your own experience which also helps the price of a night out here because without needing to account for a bottle of wine there, you get to just spend it all on their delicious food. Quality, taste and value is truly the best around and will continue to sing their praises to everyone as this place is a can’t miss.
