4 Stops to Make in Seattle’s Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market is one of Seattle’s liveliest neighborhoods. Started in the early 1900s, the market is a community of hundreds of vendors selling fresh, locally produced foods and handcrafted products. If you’re going to Seattle, definitely plan to saunter through the market to take in all the sights and sounds. There’s something exciting about wandering through a bustling market, checking out all the local goods for sale. But, it can also lead to sensory overload. So, if you start to feel overwhelmed then at the very least bear in mind my recommendations for stops to make in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

4 Stops to Make in Seattle’s Pike Place Market

1. Pike Place Fish Market

Maybe you’ve seen the infamous fish-throwing videos, and it’s even more fun to watch the action live. Swing by Pike Place Fish Market, located right under the big clock, for 15 minutes or so to check out the variety of fresh fish. Share laughs with the energetic fishermen as they throw large fish back and forth between themselves and startle passersby for your amusement. Even better, their seafood is 100% sustainable and ship overnight to anywhere in the U.S. The fish-throwing fishermen are Pike Place Market staple, and you can shop their fish here.

2. Gum Wall

Down the stairs, to the left of Pike Place Fish Market, you’ll stumble upon the Gum Wall. In pictures, the wall appears bright, colorful and fun — which it can be. But, it can also be a bit gross when you see it up close and there are plenty of bees hovering around the sticky mess of it all, so I recommend you snag your pictures and move on. Pro Tip: Don’t forget to bring bubblegum along so you can contribute to the wall!

3. Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt

Across the way from Pike Place Fish is a small shop called Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt. This struck me basically as an ice cream shop, but for homemade greek yogurt! They have a variety of yogurts all flavored with 100% natural fruits and toppings. Their most popular flavor is marionberry — I got the mango topped with marionberry cake and it was delicious. Note that the yogurt here is super rich, so be sure to get the smallest size (pictured, still a lot!) and plan to share if possible.

4. Storyville Coffee Company

Upstairs, in the same side of the market as Ellenos, is Storyville Coffee Company. Maybe it’s because I’d been watching Once Upon A Time on Netflix at the time that this place struck me, right away, as something out of a fairytale. For a while, you’re transported to a quiet, mahogany wonderland away from the bustling market. Enjoy the views and ambience as you sip on a rich latte (mine) or hot chocolate (his). Pro Tip: Their house coffee is a blend of beans from three regions. Ask to try a sample if you’re curious!
