Beyond Mardi Gras in New Orleans
Influenced from its inception by a blend of African, American Indian, French and Spanish cultures, New Orleans is a city unlike any other in the US. Many will gather here for the parade celebrating Fat Tuesday this week, but it only took me a short weekend trip to learn there’s far more to take in beyond Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The flavorful foods, unique architectural styles, rich music and quirky elements make it a great place to visit any time of year. While I was living in Houston, I had several happy opportunities to drive to the Big Easy. Though only a six-hour car ride away, I felt transported to a different country altogether. Vibrant sights around every corner kept me wanting more, and every meal was an experience in savoring the present moment.
So, I’m sharing a few of my favorite NOLA snaps and stops this week. Beyond Bourbon street, hurricane drinks and beads is a charming melting pot worth discovering.

Often, when I’m wanting to get away and a trip abroad feels far off, I think of visiting the Crescent City instead. If you’re the same, keep an eye on flights and take the first chance you get to visit this charmer (although, I’d advise against a summer trip as you may find it way too hot).
